A PASSION FOR POSSIBILITY ... LIFESTYLE OPTIONS FOR PEOPLE WITH MENTAL HEALTH CHALLENGES. WITH HELP FROM THE ARABIAN HORSE.
Our friends at Psynergy Equine, the owners of El Nabila B, have a wonderful yet little known program that helps the mentally ill through therapeutic riding. Sigi and I are proud to say that one of our geldings, Om El Shahvaan, has joined their team of horses and is making a difference! See below a brief description of their program and watch their amazing video.
In California’s San Francisco Bay area, horses have begun a new chapter in their long history with humans. And not just any horses. Arabian horses, the first domesticated breed of horse and legendary friend of man.
At Psynergy Programs, Arabian horses are a key element in helping people with mental distress improve their lives, to build relationships and the ability to cope ... to smile again.
The equine facilitated therapy program is only one element in Psynergy Programs’ approach to caring for adults with mental illness.
While equine facilitated therapy is the centerpiece of the film, which features Psynergy's clients and families, it also conveys the Psynergy philosophy of treating people with mental illness as people, first. The importance of a homelike setting where clients can experience an atmosphere that celebrates hope, promotes personal growth, and helps individuals achieve their full potential, is clearly demonstrated.
The film was developed by the Psynergy Equine Division, with the assistance of videographer Darryl Larson and scripted by Linda Graham of Wordsworth Ltd. Parts of the film were shot at Om El Arab in Santa Ynez CA, and includes photography by Robert Vente.
This film provides a window into the realm of possibility and recovery for adults experiencing mental distress, and their families.
