DREAMCATCHER SMF
(BB Thee Renegade x Shaia)
Born 1998. Black stallion.
We are strong believers in the strength of the dam line, to the extent that we believe that a superior stallion (a consistent sire of extraordinary quality) must have a great dam. We always admired the Spanish/Egyptian bred mare, Shaia, sired by perhaps the most decorated show stallion ever, *Simeon Shai, a straight Egyptian. Shaia’s dam was the daughter of the decorated Spanish mare, Zlabiya. Shaia was a joy to watch in the show ring as she won many championships - radiating femininity, type, balance, and high quality.
When we heard that Shaia was being presented at a special showing at the Egyptian Event some years ago, we went to see her. She looked as wonderful as ever, but our hearts were stolen by her little colt at her side. He was like an artistic rendering of the perfect colt – ultra typey with a dished face and huge eyes, fine arched neck, smooth and balanced body, and regal attitude. And on top of all that, he was black. His name was Dreamcatcher SMF, and was bred by Henry & Christie Metz of Silver Maple Farm. His sire is BB Thee Renegade, a straight Egyptian stallion, and a son of Thee Desperado. We were enchanted by this colt and admired his pedigree. Dreamcatcher is ¾ Egyptian and ¼ Spanish, a perfect combination for our *Estopa bred mares, whose pedigrees tip to the Spanish side of the classic 50-50 Spanish/Egyptian “Golden Cross”.
By the time Dreamcatcher was two, he had become a member of the Om El Arab International breeding program. However, when a breeder buys an unproven colt, no matter how sensational and well-bred, it is a gamble. Breeding horses is always part instinct. We bred Dreamcatcher to some of our best mares, and hoped that our gut-feelings were right.
When Dreamcatcher’s first foal crop was born, we knew that we had made the right choice. He accentuated and cemented many of the qualities we breed for: ultra type, smooth topline, balance, disposition and charisma. From those first foals came Om El Shadream (Dreamcatcher x Om El Shadina by Sanadik). Shadream, purchased by Henry & Christie Metz, was named 2005 Unanimous Scottsdale Champion Mare AOTH, and U.S. National Champion Mare AOTH. A son of Dreamcatcher was Scottsdale Reserve Junior Champion AOTH. At the 2006 Cal-Bred Championships Om El Baha Dream, (Dreamcatcher x Om El Bandeira) was named Unanimous Champion Maturity Mare. In the SFVAHS May show a Dreamcatcher son named STJ El Ragel was Junior Champion. Om El Belusena Dream was International Junior Champion Mare in England. There are many more champions, both in this country and abroad.
For the first time in the decades of long history of our breeding program, we are producing black Arabians. Dreamcatcher is siring the international champion quality breeders expect from the Om El Arab breeding program, also in black. Many have been acquired by breeders abroad.
If you are interested in a superior, consistent and proven sire of world-class type and quality, we encourage you to consider Dreamcatcher SMF for your future champions.
